Blizzard conditions with poor visibility in snow and blowing snow are expected.
What: - Very strong winds gusting to 100 km/h near the Richardson Mountains - Blizzard conditions near the Richardson Mountains
When: - now until early this evening. - Monday morning to early Tuesday morning.
Where: Dempster Highway.
Additional information: A wide variety of weather conditions is expected on the Dempster Highway this afternoon as a weather system crosses the area. Very strong easterly winds gusting to 100 km/h have developed near the Richardson Mountains. A general five centimetres of snow is expected but locally, 10 centimetres may fall, particularly over higher elevations of the highway.
Falling snow is combining with the very strong easterly winds near the Richardson Mountains to produce blizzard conditions with near-zero visibility.
The blizzard conditions will end early this evening. Occasional blowing snow will continue tonight with lighter wind speeds and a chance of flurries.
Blizzard conditions will redevelop on Monday morning and continue Monday night.
Blizzard conditions are likely on Tuesday.
