Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts, large hail and heavy rain.

Hazards: Strong wind gusts up to 100 km/h. Nickel to toonie size hail. Torrential downpours. Risk of a tornado.

Timing: This afternoon into this evening.

Additional information: Thunderstorms are expected to develop mid to late this afternoon along and ahead of an advancing cold front. The primary concern with any thunderstorms will be for strong and potentially damaging winds along with large hail and torrential rain. Conditions could become favourable for some thunderstorms to be able to produce a tornado.

Thunderstorms may persist through the overnight into Thursday morning which may lead to significant rain threat. Confidence with this is low at this time however.

Local utility outages are possible. Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible. There is a risk of injury.

Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
