Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

A developing low pressure system over southern Alberta is drawing in a warm, unstable airmass creating favourable conditions for the development of severe thunderstorms.

Thunderstorms are currently ongoing in western Montana, moving northeast towards southwestern Saskatchewan. In addition to these already ongoing storms, further thunderstorm development is forecast along a warm front arcing through southwestern Saskatchewan early this evening and slowly move eastward.

The primary hazards with these thunderstorms will be strong wind gusts and large hail. Wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h is a strong possibility with stronger cells that develop.

The severe weather threat will diminish later this evening.

Damage to roofs, fences, branches or soft shelters is possible.

Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles.

Large hail can cause significant damage and injury.

Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
