Heavy banded snow giving locally high accumulations and poor visibility.
What: - Very localised pockets of heavy snow with accumulations up to 10 cm - Sudden reduction in visibility in snow - Rapidly dropping snow levels under these convective bands with snow level as low as 600 metres. - Rapidly changing road conditions
When: - Beginning this afternoon in the southern Chilcotin - Tonight for 100 Mile, North Thompson, South Thompson
Where: - Southern Chilcotin including Dog Creek - 100 Mile - North Thompson - South Thompson, above 600 metres
Additional information: A low pressure system will bring a cold and unstable airmass to central and southern B.C. beginning this afternoon. Convective rain showers will develop and rapidly change to flurries late this afternoon or early evening. While most areas may see near five centimetres of snow, the nature of this weather system will favour pockets of heavier snow to develop which may result in localised accumulations of up to 10 cm of snow anywhere in these highlighted regions.
In addition, for the North and South Thompson regions, heavier, localized rain showers may drag the snow levels down to near 600 metres for some areas.
Travellers on local highways are advised to prepare for rapidly changing road conditions and sudden changes in visibility due to heavy rain or flurries.
