Special Weather Statement In Effect

Significant rainfall is expected.

Locations: Eastern Nova Scotia and Cape Breton.

Potential rainfall amounts: 60 to 100 mm. Possibly higher in areas of heaviest rain.

Time span: Tonight until Monday morning.

Remarks: A developing and slow-moving weather system is expected to bring a period of significant rainfall. Tropical moisture will contribute to sustained, torrential downpours. Rainfall rates of 10 to 20 mm per hour may occur over some locations. Thunderstorms may develop over some areas, producing locally heavier rainfall. Forecast guidance is indicating that the heaviest rainfall amounts with this system will occur over Cape Breton and Prince Edward Island. It is likely that rainfall warnings will be issued for portions of eastern Nova Scotia including Cape Breton with the afternoon forecast.

Similar storms in the past have caused water pooling on roads and road washouts.

Consider adjusting travel plans to avoid the most adverse conditions.
