Yellow Warning - Severe Thunderstorm

At 8:15 a.m. PDT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing up to quarter size hail and heavy rain.

The severe thunderstorm is located 5 km to the northwest of Courtenay and is moving to the northwest at 20km/h.

Locations that will be affected include:

-Courtenay -Highway 19 - Communities to the northwest of Courtenay

Driving conditions will likely be difficult.

Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.

Severe thunderstorm warnings are issued when imminent or occurring thunderstorms are expected to produce damaging hail, wind or rain.
