Details

Significant precipitation expected Friday night through Sunday with both rain and snow possible.
A storm system moving through northern Manitoba this weekend will bring a mix of rain and wet snow Saturday into Sunday. Currently, the precipitation is generally expected to fall as rain, however much of the storm system will take place with temperatures just a couple degrees above freezing. If temperatures end up even a degree cooler than forecast, there is the potential that more of the precipitation could fall as snow, resulting in notable accumulations of heavy, wet snow across the region.
The most likely outcome has shifted towards a greater amount of wet snow across the region. Along the axis of heaviest precipitation, 10 to 20 mm of rain with 5 to 15 cm of wet snow is possible by the time the precipitation tapers off on Sunday. In the worst case scenario, if temperatures end up slightly colder than forecast, then 10 to 25 centimetres of heavy wet snow could fall in some areas.
The heaviest precipitation, whether rain or snow, is expected along a corridor that extends from near and north of Flin Flon east through the Nelson House and Thompson areas, then onwards to areas between Gillam and Oxford House.
Watch for updated forecasts and any potential weather alerts as the event nears.
