At 8:14 a.m. ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing heavy rain.
Locations: southern Cape Breton and eastern NS.
Maximum rainfall rates: locally up to 25 mm per hour in thunderstorms.
Total rainfall: locally up to 50 mm possible in the heaviest thunderstorms.
Maximum wind gusts: near 70 km/h in thunderstorms.
Time span: early this morning.
Remarks: An area of severe thunderstorms is moving towards the southeast at 40 to 50 km/h. Torrential downpours, small hail and strong wind gusts are associated with these thunderstorms.
