Details

Super Typhoon Bavi is currently located about 550 miles to the northeast of Yap and 835 miles to the northeast of Koror, Palau near 14.5N 144.4E. Bavi is moving west-northwest at 13 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 175 mph. Palau and Yap sit on the southern sector of Bavi and its large circulation.
Although Yap and Palau are expected to remain outside of Bavi's direct wind field, surging west to southwest winds around 20 to 30 knots with gusts of 40-45 knots are expected to develop across Palau and Yap. These stronger gusts are most likely to occur near heavier showers and rainbands.
Hazardous marine conditions are on tap the next several days due to the above conditions. Inter island travel will be hazardous and dangerous surf will establish along west and north facing reefs tonight. Conditions look to improve late this week into early next week.
