Typhoon Bavi (09W) is currently located about 400 miles to the north-northeast of Chuuk near 12.9N 153.8E and is moving west at 13 mph. Maximum sustained winds are 120 mph. Bavi is expected to continue moving west, eventually turning to the west-northwest through the next few days, passing through the Marianas sometime Monday. Although the exact time frame is still somewhat uncertain, and Yap and Palau are expected to remain outside of Bavi's direct wind field, surging west to southwest winds around 20 to 25 knots are expected to develop across the region south to southwest of the storm. Models suggest west winds around 15 to 20 knots will begin to pick up for Yap and Palau late Sunday, peaking sometime early next week with potential to generate choppy, hazardous seas which could make inter-island travel hazardous. As TY Bavi develops and begins to move north to northeast of the region, surging west to southwest swell looks to develop, which will lead to elevated, and potentially hazardous surf in the first half of next week.
