Details

Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) is currently centered near 17N133E, roughly 630 miles northwest of Yap and 680 miles north of Palau. Maximum sustained winds are 155 mph. Yap and Palau continue to face impacts from elevated northwest swells emanating from STY Bavi and the trailing monsoon pattern.
Hazardous seas up to 16 feet will continue tonight at Yap, and up to 14 feet at Palau, generated by an elevated northwest swell from STY Bavi, and from elevated southwest monsoon swell and wind waves. Surging southwest winds of 20 to 30 knots with gusts to 35 knots will continue tonight, especially near any heavier showers, contributing to hazardous sea conditions through the next few days. Inter-island travel will be dangerous. As Bavi continues to pull away toward the northwest over the next few days, the monsoon pattern will shift northwest with it, and winds, seas, and surf will gradually subside. Even so, hazardous surf conditions will continue through at least Friday afternoon, associated with the elevated swells.
