The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 400 PM HST.

* At 1238 PM HST, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain bands from Hurricane Lala are moving onshore across windward and southeast Big Island. Additional heavy rain bands are anticipated over the next few hours, especially across the Kau and Puna Districts. Radar estimates that rain is falling at a rate of 1 to 2.5 inches per hour, with locally higher rates at times. Automated rain gauges have reported between 1.5 and 2 inches of rain in the past hour in some spots. Water levels continue to be elevated in Honolii Stream. County emergency management officials have reported numerous road closures due to flooding in the South Hilo, Puna, and Kau Districts. Flash flooding is ongoing within the warned area.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
