Special Weather Statement

* WHAT...A warm front associated with strong Bering Sea low will move into Western Alaska Wednesday into Thursday, with widespread rain and gusty winds expected. Water levels late Thursday through Saturday morning could rise 2 to 4 feet above the normal high tide line in the Norton Sound, and 1 to 2 feet above the normal high tide line along the Yukon Delta Coast.

* WHERE...Southern Seward Peninsula Coast east of Nome, Eastern Norton Sound, and Yukon Delta Coast.

* WHEN...Late Thursday September 3 through Saturday September 5.

* IMPACTS...Localized beach erosion may occur. Heavy rain and gusty winds could make travel difficult at times.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Water levels are expected to peak late Thursday into Friday and Saturday morning. Gusty east/southeast winds Wednesday into Thursday will shift to the south/southwest Thursday into Friday, leading to more onshore flow and the potential for higher water levels. Strongest wind gusts across the West Coast will peak on Thursday around 30 to 50 mph, with around 0.50 to 1.25 inches of rain expected through Thursday night. Winds will be lighter Friday and Saturday, but will remain onshore. There remains some uncertainty with the exact water level heights, which will continue to be monitored.
