Details

* WHAT...Nuisance flooding caused by excessive rainfall may be ongoing.
* WHERE...Southeastern Mecklenburg County in the piedmont of North Carolina... Northern Union NC County in the piedmont of North Carolina...
* WHEN...Until 945 PM EDT.
* IMPACTS...Nuisance flooding of low-lying areas adjacent to streams and other poor-drainage areas, including farmland, parks, greenways, boat-access areas, golf courses, underpasses, and parking lots. Isolated, shallow flows over roadways is possible. A few flood-prone, low-water crossings may become impassible.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 539 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicate earlier heavy rain across the Goose Creek and Crooked Creek watersheds has ended. Light showers persist across the Advisory area, but these showers will not exacerbate ongoing excessive runoff and stream rises. However, North Fork Crooked Creek and South Fork Crooked Creek continue to rise with bankfull conditions possible over the next 1-2 hours before these streams crest. Therefore, the Flood Advisory will remain in effect through at least 9pm to allow streams to crest and conditions to improve. Isolated areas of nuisance flooding may be ongoing in areas from Matthews to Indian Trail to Hemby Bridge, especially adjacent to the north and south forks of Crooked Creek.
- Additional rounds of showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop through the early overnight in the vicinity of the current Advisory area. These showers and storms will be very efficient at producing brief periods of heavy rainfall. Where earlier heavy rainfall has occurred, soils are saturated and streams are elevated. Therefore, additional heavy rain may quickly create new areas of flooding and cause previous areas of flooding to redevelop. Caution is advised near any stream or other vulnerable area. Stay weather aware through this evening and have multiple ways to receive Advisories and Warnings.
- Some locations that may experience nuisance floodinginclude... Matthews, Indian Trail, Unionville, and Hemby Bridge.
