At 304 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated strong thunderstorms, capable of producing winds to around 30 knots. These thunderstorms were located along a line extending from 16 nm northeast of Venice to 24 nm east of Siesta Key to 34 nm southeast of Hillsborough Bay, moving northwest at 25 knots.
