Rip currents have been observed over the last hour north of Oregon Inlet, as low tide has occurred during the last hour. An elevated risk of rip currents can be expected through noon, before the threat of rip currents lessens this afternoon. If caught in a rip current, relax and do not swim against it. Swim parallel to the shoreline to escape the pull of the rip current. If you cannot escape, float or tread water, and yell and wave for help. Always swim on a lifeguarded beach, and if in doubt, stay out of the water.
