Invest 92W continues to linger north of Pohnpei near 9.6N 156.8E. Satellite imagery shows 92W is nearly stationary. The slow motion looks to persist through Wednesday, allowing the west to southwesterly winds to continue bringing southwest fetch of moisture to the region, as seen in the all-layer precipitable water vapor imagery. This will keep heavy rainfall and potential mudslide concerns at Pohnpei and Kosrae, with occasional to frequent wind gusts to 35 mph possible through Thursday. A Small Craft Advisory is in effect for Pohnpei until 3 PM Thursday.
Additional rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 inches are possible through the week. These rainfall amounts could result in flooding and potential mudslides. Residents of Kosrae and Pohnpei should monitor local forecasts and heed advice of emergency managers when heavy rainfall occurs.
