...The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Flood Warning for the following rivers in New Mexico...
Rio Hondo Above Roswell affecting Chaves and Lincoln Counties.
.Heavy Rain upstream of this point resulted in catastrophic flash flooding near Hondo. This has resulted in minor flood impacts along this reach of the river. Impacts downstream of the Two Rivers Reservoir will be minimized due to controls cutting off flows from the reservoir.
* WHAT...Minor flooding is occurring and minor flooding is forecast.
* WHERE...Rio Hondo above Roswell.
* WHEN...From early this morning to this evening.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 2:20 AM MDT Friday the stage was 26.4 feet. - Bankfull stage is 25.0 feet. - Recent Activity...The maximum river stage in the 24 hours ending at 2:20 AM MDT Friday was 26.4 feet. - Forecast...The river is expected to fall below flood stage this morning and continue falling to 8.1 feet early Wednesday morning. - Flood stage is 26.0 feet. - Flood History...This crest compares to a previous crest of 26.4 feet on 06/18/1965. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Instructions
Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas.
Caution is urged when walking near riverbanks.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
