Special Weather Statement

An active monsoon pattern will continue across western Micronesia with satellite imagery continuing to show areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms. Latest satellite-dervied surface wind data depicts 15 to 20 mph west to southwest winds across western Yap State and Palau with pockets of locally higher winds.

Weather models point to a continuation of these conditions with periods of locally heavy showers moving across the islands, occasionally bringing increased winds, gusts, and choppy seas. Both Yap and Palau are in the monsoon inflow of Invest 91W, located near 13N142E, northeast of Yap. 91W is now the subject of a Tropical Cyclone Formation Alert from the Joint Typhoon Warning Center and showers are expected to remain mostly numerous to widespread and heavy at times. Model guidance suggests 1 to 3 inches of rain per day will be possible through Wednesday, especially for Yap.
