Special Weather Statement

An active monsoon pattern has developed across Western Micronesia with recent satellite imagery showing broad areas of heavy showers and thunderstorms. Midday satellite-derived surface wind data depicts 15 to 20 mph west winds across Yap State with a few areas of stronger gusts north of Faraulep.

Computer models point to a continuation of these conditions into midweek with periods of heavy showers moving across the islands, occasionally bringing increased winds, gusts and choppy seas. By midweek, models indicate the potential for a circulation to slowly organize as it passes between Yap and Guam into the Philippine Sea. As this happens, westerly winds and gusts will increase with showers and thunderstorms. While these conditions will generally be felt across Yap State, portions of the Republic of Palau could see heavy showers and thunderstorms dropping south early in the week.
