High Surf Advisory

* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, breaking waves of 3 to 6 feet with frequent, dangerous rip currents, highest across south to southwest facing beaches exposed to southerly swells. Very strong rip currents are occuring along some beaches.

* WHERE...Catalina and Santa Barbara Islands, Malibu Coast and Los Angeles County Beaches.

* WHEN...Until 5 PM PDT this afternoon.

* IMPACTS...There is an increased risk of ocean drowning. Rip currents can pull swimmers and surfers out to sea. Large breaking waves can cause injury, wash people off beaches and rocks, and capsize small boats near shore.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...High tides of 5.8 to 6.5 feet will occur in the evening hours tonight.
