The latest camera imagery from inside the basin showed a drop in water level with a corresponding rise in water levels on Mendenhall Lake overnight. This could be an indication that a basin release has started. NWS hydrologists and meteorologists along with their partners are assessing and analyzing the information.
Water levels in the basin are around 200 ft below where it was before the release in August so if it is a release, the crest should be much lower.
Now is the time to start preparing for potential flooding impacts along the Mendenhall Lake and River. This statement will be updated within the next 24 hours so check back on this possible evolving situation.
For Mendenhall Lake : At 3:45am the stage was 4.5 feet. Flood Stage is 9.0 feet.
