A glacier dammed lake outburst from Summit Lake has started on the Salmon River near Hyder. Water levels on the Salmon River are expected to continue to rise over the next day or two with an expected crest sometime on Wednesday or Thursday. It is unknown how much water will be released from Summit Lake which results in large uncertainty on crest height and timing.
Potential impact area for this event is the road from Hyder to Premier, Canada at around mile point 9 along the Salmon River.
Be aware of debris in the water. Very cold water will increase the threat of hypothermia. Please report any observed impacts to the National Weather Service.
