Tropical Storm Mekkhala (07W) continues to slowly strengthen to the north-northwest of Yap Proper, moving west this evening. The monsoon trough extending into it remains in place, supporting moderate to fresh southwest winds, widespread heavy showers, and isolated to scattered thunderstorms across the region. Deterministic and ensemble model guidance suggest additional rainfall amounts between 2 and 4 inches, with locally higher amounts possible, through Tuesday morning. Heavy showers could result in some localized flooding and mudslide concerns, especially where heavy rains have already recently fallen, mainly for Koror and northern portions of the Republic of Palau. Wind gusts up to around 30 to 35 mph may accompany the heavier showers or thunderstorms that develop. Folks are urged to stay informed and look out for additional information or forecast updates from the National Weather Service in Guam, as well as local weather offices in Palau and Yap.
