As Tropical Storm Mekkhala (07W) continues to strengthen, a monsoon trough that has developed over the last 24 hours, will remain in place. Deep moisture transport in the west to southwesterly flow and favorable lift (aided by orographical lift, especially in Koror and northern Palau), will remain conducive to a heavy rainfall environment. Rain rates in excess of 1.5 inches per hour could develop from time to time. Total rainfall amounts of 3 to 5 inches, with localized amounts near 8 inches, are possible through Tuesday morning. This could result in some localized flooding and mudslide concerns, especially for Koror and northern portions of the Republic of Palau. Wind gusts to 35 mph (possibly higher) may accompany the heavier showers or thunderstorms that develop. Folks are urged to stay informed via the local weather offices in Palau and Yap, as well as with the NWS Guam Forecast office.
