Flood Warning

* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.

* WHERE...Central Roosevelt County in east central New Mexico... Central Chaves County in southeastern New Mexico...

* WHEN...Until 330 AM MDT.

* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. Expect many areas of slow moving or standing water. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1152 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is already occurring in the warned area. Between 2 and 3.5 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Roswell, Portales, Dexter, Hagerman, Dora, Elkins, Bottomless Lakes State Park, Bitter Lake Wildlife Refuge, Pep and Arch. - High and fast flows are expected in the Rio Hondo.
