At 5:30 p.m. ADT, Environment Canada meteorologists are tracking a severe thunderstorm capable of producing damaging wind gusts, up to quarter size hail and heavy rain.
Locations: Churchill Falls and vicinity and Churchill valley.
Maximum rainfall rates: locally 25 to 35 mm per hour in thunderstorms.
Maximum wind gusts: near 90 km/h in thunderstorms.
Time span: ending this evening.
Remarks: A line of severe thunderstorms over Churchill Falls is moving eastward at 60 km/h. Torrential downpours and strong wind gusts are expected to accompany these storms. Intense winds have been detected in association with a strong thunderstorm over Churchill Falls. Localized damaging gusts are expected to reach areas around as the storm continues to track eastward.
