At 1247 AM MDT, the river gauge at US-89 on the Paria River reported a large flood wave over 3000 cfs moving down drainage.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding.
SOURCE...Trained spotters reported.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, normally dry washes, and slickrock areas.
Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The Paria River downstream to the Arizona border and Wahweap Creek downstream to Lake Powell.
This includes US Route 89 between mile markers 2 and 12...and between mile markers 18 and 22.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
