.STORM INFORMATION... At 7 AM ChST, the center of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) was located near latitude 14.2N, longitude 145.5E. This was about 70 miles northeast of Guam. Storm motion was west-northwest, 290 degrees, at 9 mph. Storm intensity was 180 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW... The eyewall of Super Typhoon Bavi (09W) is passing over Rota, and an Extreme Wind Warning is in effect. Catastrophic winds in excess of 150 mph are expected across the entirety of Rota through the next several hours. This is an extremely dangerous and life-threatening situation. Following the initial period of catastrophic winds, relatively calm conditions will prevail during eye passage. Do not venture out. Extremely dangerous winds will soon return on the back side of Super Typhoon Bavi.
For Guam, Tinian, and Saipan, Bavi is making its nearest approach. Damaging, strong tropical storm force winds of 58 to 73 mph are being felt at minimum. Sustained, destructive typhoon force winds of 74 mph or greater have been observed on Saipan, and may be expected for Tinian, and even northernmost points of Guam. After passing directly over Rota, Bavi is forecast to continue west- northwest at roughly 10 to 13 mph, with the typhoon-force wind field expected to depart the islands by late afternoon.
