* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...South Central Sierra County in south central New Mexico... East Central Grant County in southwestern New Mexico... Luna County in southwestern New Mexico...
* WHEN...Until 1115 PM MDT.
* IMPACTS...Flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Low-water crossings are inundated with water and may not be passable. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 814 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen. - Additional rainfall amounts up to 1 inch are possible in the warned area. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Columbus, Deming, Akela, Lake Valley, Hermanas, Gage, Sunshine, Butterfield Trail Estates, Rock Hound State Park, Uvas Valley, Deming Ranchettes and Waterloo. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
