High Surf Advisory

* WHAT...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways with compromised dune structures. Elevated water levels due to high astronomical tides and moderate west winds may lead to localized minor flooding of low-lying areas prone to sound-side flooding. For the High Surf Advisory, large breaking waves of 6 to 8 feet in the surf zone. For the Beach Hazards Statement, dangerous rip currents, large breaking waves, and hazardous debris expected in the surf zone.

* WHERE...Northern Outer Banks ocean-side locales that experienced weakening of dune structures over the last few days. For sound-side localized flooding, low-lying areas prone to sound-side flooding in and near Manteo.

* WHEN...For the Coastal Flood Advisory, until midnight EDT tonight. For the High Surf Advisory, until 8 AM EDT this morning. For the Beach Hazards Statement, through this evening.

* IMPACTS...Up to 1 to 2 feet of inundation above ground level is possible in low-lying areas near shorelines and tidal waterways with compromised dune structures resulting in a low threat of property damage. Dune structure erosion is possible in vulnerable locations. Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The next ocean-side high tide times are around 8:15 AM Sunday, and 8:30 PM Sunday. The sound-side high times are around 11:30 AM Sunday and midnight Sunday night. The most likely time for strong rip currents to occur is a couple hours either side of low tide, which will occur around 2:30 PM Sunday.
