The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for... Central Kane County in southern Utah...
* Until 400 AM MDT Tuesday.
* At 808 PM MDT, Doppler radar indicates heavy rainfall producing flash flooding in the Paria River and Wahweap Creek. Heaviest rainfall has been observed in the upper headwaters of the Paria River, where between 1 and 1.25 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 0.5 to 1 inch are possible in the warned area.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, normally dry washes, and slickrock areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... The Paria River downstream to the Arizona border and Wahweap Creek downstream to Lake Powell.
This includes US Route 89 between mile markers 2 and 11...and between mile markers 18 and 22.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
Flooding is occurring or is imminent. It is important to know where you are relative to streams, rivers, or creeks which can become killers in heavy rains. Campers and hikers should avoid streams or creeks.
