The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City has issued a
* Flash Flood Warning for... South Central Washington County in southwestern Utah...
* Until 145 AM MDT.
* At 1046 PM MDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.5 and 1 inch of rain has fallen. Flash flooding is already occurring with an automated gage on Fort Pearce Wash near St. George reporting a peak flow near 1700 CFS at 945 PM MDT.
HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Thunderstorms producing flash flooding.
SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges.
IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, dry washes, and low water crossings.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Fort Pearce Wash and Creek near St. George.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Dry washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
