The National Weather Service in Midland/Odessa has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for... Southwestern Eddy County in southeastern New Mexico... Northwestern Culberson County in southwestern Texas...
* Until 600 AM MDT /700 AM CDT/.
* At 347 AM MDT /447 AM CDT/, Doppler radar continued to indicate thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 2 inches of rain have fallen during the past three hours. Additional heavy rainfall can be expected as storms train over the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Pine Springs, Carlsbad Caverns National Park, McKittrick Canyon, Whites City, Guadalupe Mountains National Park, Lincoln National Forest and Queen.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route.
