Rip Current Statement

* WHAT...For the High Surf Advisory, breaking waves of 3 to 5 feet in the surf zone. For the High Rip Current Risk, dangerous rip currents. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, 1 to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level expected in vulnerable areas near the waterfront and shoreline. The highest water levels likely with the Monday morning high tide.

* WHERE...Southern Queens County.

* WHEN...For the High Surf Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Coastal Flood Advisory, from 7 PM this evening to noon EDT Monday.

* COASTAL FLOOD IMPACTS...Widespread minor flooding is expected in the most vulnerable locations near the waterfront and shoreline, particularly with the Monday morning high tide. Expect 1 to 1 1/2 ft of inundation above ground level. Some roads and low lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience shallow flooding.

* SHOREFRONT AND BEACH IMPACTS...Breaking waves of 3 to 5 feet along with elevated water levels will result in localized dune erosion and beach flooding. Life threatening rip currents are likely for all people entering the surf zone.
