High Surf Advisory

...HIGH SURF ADVISORY FOR EAST AND SOUTHEAST FACING SHORES OF BIG ISLAND...MAUI AND MOLOKAI...

.Hurricane Nolo is expected to strengthen the next couple of days as it tracks slowly north through today and then turns west this weekend, passing south of the Hawaiian Islands. Nolo will produce a moderate size south swell along its east side that will result in advisory level surf along southern shores, initially on Big Island today and tomorrow, and then possibly expanding westward across the state early next week. Strong trades will likely result in advisory level surf for the eastern island east and southeast- facing shores through tomorrow, potentially expanding to the remaining islands this weekend as strong easterlies expand west.

* WHAT...Large breaking waves of 8 to 12 feet today, increasing 10 to 14 feet Saturday.

* WHERE...East and southeast facing shores of Big Island...Maui and Molokai.

* WHEN...Through Saturday afternoon.

* IMPACTS...Moderate to High. Strong breaking waves and strong currents will make swimming dangerous. Expect very strong breaking waves and powerful currents. Waves breaking in channel entrances may make navigating the channels dangerous.
