.NEW INFORMATION... The Tropical Storm Warning is cancelled for Tinian and Saipan.
.AREAS AFFECTED... This local statement provides information and recommended actions for people on Saipan, Tinian, Agrihan, Pagan and Alamagan in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas.
.Watches/Warnings... A Tropical Storm Warning is no longer in effect for Tinian and Saipan.
A Typhoon Warning remains in effect for Alamagan, Agrihan and Pagan in the CNMI.
A Flood Watch remains in effect for all of Guam and the Northern Marianas. Please listen closely for any Flood Warnings that might be in effect for your area.

.STORM INFORMATION... At 7 PM ChST, the center of Typhoon Choi-wan (26W) was located near latitude 19.8N, longitude 146.1E. This was about 440 miles north of Guam. Storm motion was north-northeast, 30 degrees, at 10 mph. Storm intensity was 90 mph.
.SITUATION OVERVIEW... Typhoon Choi-wan has weakened slightly as it continues moving north-northeast, away from the Marianas, and is currently a Category 1 storm. It is expected to intensify through Sunday, potentially becoming Category 3 by Sunday afternoon. Tinian and Saipan are now outside the radius of tropical storm force winds, and the Tropical Storm Warning has been cancelled for these locations. However, tropical storm to strong tropical storm conditions continue for the northern islands of Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan, and are expected to persist into Sunday afternoon, with TS winds forecasted to depart Alamagan and Pagan by around noon Sunday, and Agrihan by evening. The Typhoon Warning will continue for these islands until Tropical Storm conditions move away.

Instructions

Sustained damaging tropical storm force winds are no longer expected, however, strong to near-gale winds and frequent gale- force gusts will continue within the surging monsoon flow south of Typhoon Choi-wan. Continue to monitor forecasts by the National Weather Service office in Tiyan, Guam.
Remain in suitable shelter, such as a cave or sturdy concrete structure. Shelter in place until the all-clear is given.
.WIND INFORMATION... Typhoon winds of 74 mph or more have begun to depart Agrihan this evening, but tropical storm force winds of 39-73 mph will continue for Alamagan, Pagan, and Agrihan through at least Sunday morning as Choi-wan treks north-northeast away from the northern CNMI, gradually strengthening through Sunday afternoon. TS winds are currently forecasted to depart Alamagan and Pagan by around noon Sunday, and Agrihan by around Sunday evening.
.COASTAL INUNDATION AND SURF INFORMATION... Hazardous to dangerous surf of 12 to 16 feet along north, south, and west facing reefs are expected to continue through tonight, diminishing gradually as Typhoon Choi-wan moves farther away from the northern islands through Sunday. Significant coastal erosion and some coastal inundation remain possible as Choi-wan moves away.
.OTHER STORM EFFECTS... Periods of torrential rain, widespread heavy showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to continue into early Sunday morning, producing rainfall totals of 8 to 14 inches by early Monday morning, with up to 20 inches of rainfall possible near the center of the system.
