* WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall is expected.
* WHERE...Dona Ana County in south central New Mexico... Sierra County in south central New Mexico...
* WHEN...Until 515 AM MDT Wednesday.
* IMPACTS...While rains have diminished, flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations is imminent or occurring. Numerous roads remain closed due to flooding. Streams continue to rise due to excess runoff from earlier rainfall. It will take several hours for all the water from these storms to work through local drainage systems in urban areas.
* ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - At 1022 PM MDT, Flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly in the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. - Some locations that will experience flooding include... Hatch, Upham, Leasburg, Arrey, Rincon, Caballo, Las Cruces, Cuchillo, Vado, Truth or Consequences, White Sands Missile Range Headquarters and Radium Springs. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Arroyos, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
