Yellow Watch - Severe Thunderstorm

Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms that may be capable of producing strong wind gusts and heavy rain.

Locations: Churchill Valley.

Potential rainfall rates: locally 25 to 35 mm per hour in thunderstorms.

Potential wind gusts: up to 90 km/h in thunderstorms.

Time span: this evening.

Remarks: A line of thunderstorms just east of Churchill Falls is moving eastward at 50 km/hr. These storms have the potential for localized heavy rainfall and strong wind gusts.

Heavy rain can cause flash flooding and significant reductions to visibility. Strong wind gusts can damage trees, buildings and overturn vehicles. Severe thunderstorm watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the development of thunderstorms capable of producing damaging hail, wind or rain.
