Flash Flood Warning

At 824 PM HST, radar indicated an intense rain band currently moving onshore over the Kau district near Naalehu and Kawa Flats with rain rates of 2 to 4 inches per hour. Bands of intense rainfall will likely continue over the Kau district over the next few hours. Elsewhere across windward Big Island, rain rates have slightly decreased and periods of moderate to heavy rain will continue over the next several hours with rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour. County emergency management officials have reported numerous road closures due to flooding in the South Hilo, Puna, Kohala, and Kau Districts. Considerable Flash flooding is expected across southeast Big Island, especially over the Kau District.
