The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the

* Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County

* Until 700 PM HST.

* At 349 PM HST, Doppler radar indicated moderate to heavy rain bands from Hurricane Lala continuing to move onshore across windward and southeast Big Island. Additional heavy rain bands are anticipated over the next few hours, especially across the Kau and Puna Districts. Radar and automated rain gauges are indicating rainfall rates of 1 to 2.5 inches per hour. Elevated flow was still observed in Honolii Stream, Wailuku River, and Paauau Gulch. County emergency management officials have reported numerous road closures due to flooding in the South Hilo, Puna, and Kau Districts. Flash flooding is ongoing within the warned area.

HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain.

IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.

* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Hawaiian Acres Keaau, and Pahala.
