The National Weather Service in Tucson has extended the
* Flash Flood Warning for... Northwestern Cochise County in southeastern Arizona...
* Until 715 PM MST.
* At 456 PM MST, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 0.8 and 2.5 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 0.2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly.
HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms.
SOURCE...Radar indicated.
IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas.
* Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Willcox, Tombstone, Dragoon, Pearce-Sunsites, Cochise, Kansas Settlement, Fairbank and Charleston.
This includes the following highways... Route 80 between mile markers 307 and 325. Route 191 between mile markers 46 and 66. Interstate 10 between mile markers 322 and 342. Route 82 between mile markers 60 and 67.
This includes the following streams and drainages... Haberstock Wash, Dragoon Wash, Babocomari River, Escalante Wash, Walnut Wash, San Pedro River, Willow Wash, Dial Wash, Henderson Wash, Walnut Gulch, Clifford Wash, Reeves Creek and Slavin Wash.
Instructions
Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
Remain alert for flooding even in locations not receiving rain. Washes, streams, and rivers can become raging killer currents in a matter of minutes, even from distant rainfall.
