A Live Activity you have to remember to start is a Live Activity you won't have running when you need it. Forecast Bar's starts remotely the moment precipitation is detected at your location, so it's already on your Lock Screen by the time you look.

On iPhone 14 Pro and later the Live Activity collapses into the Dynamic Island, so the state of the rain is visible from whatever app you're in — and expands to the full chart with a long press.

An honest note: it retires rather than going stale.

A Live Activity showing an hour-old precipitation chart is worse than no Live Activity, because it looks current. Forecast Bar's dismisses itself when the underlying data is no longer fresh enough to trust, rather than sitting on your Lock Screen misleading you.

That's also why it's tied to precipitation rather than running permanently: the value of a live rain chart is entirely in it being live, and there's nothing to track when it isn't raining.

What is the Forecast Bar weather Live Activity?
