Live Activity

The rain, live, on your Lock Screen.

When precipitation starts at your location, Forecast Bar's Live Activity appears on its own — a minute-by-minute intensity chart on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island — and retires itself once the rain has passed.

Free 24-hour access, then optional subscription with 7-day trial. Mac and iOS plans are separate; Apple TV is included with Forecast Bar Gold on iOS.

Animation
The chart advances every minute on-device, so it stays current between server updates.

It comes to you

You don't launch it. It appears when the rain does.

A Live Activity you have to remember to start is a Live Activity you won't have running when you need it. Forecast Bar's starts remotely the moment precipitation is detected at your location, so it's already on your Lock Screen by the time you look.

  • Starts on its own when rain begins at your location
  • No app launch, no manual toggle
  • Optionally paired with a notification when it starts
  • Dismisses itself when the precipitation has passed

Glance, don't unlock

In the Dynamic Island, at the top of everything.

On iPhone 14 Pro and later the Live Activity collapses into the Dynamic Island, so the state of the rain is visible from whatever app you're in — and expands to the full chart with a long press.

  • Compact view in the Dynamic Island
  • Expanded chart on long press
  • Full chart on the Lock Screen
  • The chart advances minute by minute on-device

An honest note: it retires rather than going stale.

A Live Activity showing an hour-old precipitation chart is worse than no Live Activity, because it looks current. Forecast Bar's dismisses itself when the underlying data is no longer fresh enough to trust, rather than sitting on your Lock Screen misleading you.

That's also why it's tied to precipitation rather than running permanently: the value of a live rain chart is entirely in it being live, and there's nothing to track when it isn't raining.

FAQ

Questions about the Live Activity

What is the Forecast Bar weather Live Activity?
It's a Precipitation Live Activity: a minute-by-minute rain intensity chart that appears on your iPhone Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island while it's raining at your location.
Do I have to start the Live Activity myself?
No. It starts remotely when precipitation is detected at your location, so it's already there when you look at your phone. It also dismisses itself once the rain has passed.
Does the Live Activity work in the Dynamic Island?
Yes, on iPhone 14 Pro and later. It shows a compact state in the Dynamic Island and expands to the full chart on a long press.
What iOS version does the Live Activity need?
iOS 17.2 or later, with notifications enabled for Forecast Bar. The precipitation alerts themselves work on earlier versions.
Why did my Live Activity disappear?
By design: it dismisses itself when the precipitation has ended, or when the data behind the chart is no longer fresh enough to be trustworthy. A stale live chart is worse than none, because it still looks current.
How much does Forecast Bar cost?
You get free 24-hour access to everything — no card, no account. After that there is an optional subscription with a 7-day trial, and current pricing is shown in the App Store. Mac and iOS plans are separate; Apple TV is included with Forecast Bar Gold on iOS. See Compare Plans for what each tier includes.
