About these pages
Forecast Bar polls the National Weather Service alert feed continuously to deliver push notifications to its users. These pages are the same feed, organised by place: one page for each of the 3,234 counties and county equivalents, one for each of the 800 cities of 50,000 or more, and one for every state and territory. Each page shows the alerts in effect, in plain English, with a map, the last 30 days, and a running 12-month count by alert type.
Every page is also available as JSON by adding .json to its address, for anyone who wants the data in their own tools. Canada has the same pages, built from Environment and Climate Change Canada's alerts.

Plain English
What these alerts mean
A warning means the hazard is happening or about to; a watch means conditions favour it; an advisory is a lesser hazard still worth planning around.
Winds or seas hazardous to small boats. Inexperienced mariners should stay in port.
Heat index values high enough to cause heat illness with prolonged exposure. Drink water, stay in air conditioning and check on neighbours.
Minor flooding of streets, streams or low-lying areas is expected. Expect ponding on roads and use caution when driving.
A storm with hail of 1 inch or larger, winds of 58 mph or more, or both, is occurring or imminent. Move indoors and away from windows.
Hazards such as rip currents, sneaker waves or cold water are expected at the beach.
A heads-up about conditions that do not meet warning or advisory criteria but still deserve attention, such as a strong storm, patchy fog or a brief burst of snow.
